What is BungeeCord?

BungeeCord is a proxy for Minecraft Java. Unlike a regular game server, it runs no world of its own: it sits in front of your servers, takes the players' connections and forwards them to whichever server you choose. For the player there is only one address to remember; behind it you can run as many servers as your project needs.

That mechanism is what makes a network possible: a welcome lobby, a survival server, a creative server and a mini-game can coexist, and players move between them without ever leaving the game — no disconnect screen, no new address to type.

What your BungeeCord hosting includes

One proxy, as many servers as you need

BungeeCord sets no limit on the number of servers declared in its configuration. You can therefore hook up your AdKyNet Minecraft servers as your network grows, without changing proxy plan every time you add one.

2 or 4 GB of RAM

A proxy uses far less memory than a game server, since it loads no world, no chunks and no entities. The 2 GB of BungeeCord 1 are enough for a network that is starting out; the 4 GB of BungeeCord 2 leave headroom for proxy plugins and connection spikes.

2 or 4 vCore

A proxy's work is essentially network work: encrypting, compressing and relaying packets. That load parallelises well, hence the step from 2 to 4 vCore between the two plans as the number of concurrent players rises.

Up to 10 Gbits connection

All of your network's traffic goes through the proxy: it is the one point that can never be allowed to become a bottleneck. Both plans get the same connection, whatever the price.

A database included

Plugins that work at network scale — global permissions, bans, shared economy, cross-server statistics — need common storage. The database that comes with the plan gives them a single source of truth.

2 backups

A proxy's configuration is short but critical: one mistake in the config.yml and nobody gets into the network any more. Backups let you return to a known state without rebuilding your server tree by hand.

BungeeCord or Waterfall?

Waterfall is a fork of BungeeCord — its source code taken over and extended with performance and stability patches. It keeps the same plugin API: a plugin written for BungeeCord drops straight onto Waterfall, and the configuration stays the same.

The choice therefore commits nothing. You can start on BungeeCord, the historical and best-documented reference, then switch to Waterfall if a plugin or a Minecraft version benefits from it — without redoing your config.yml or your game servers' configuration.

What a Minecraft proxy actually does for you

Bringing game modes together

Survival, creative, PvP, mini-games: each mode has its own settings, its plugins and sometimes its own Minecraft version. The proxy gathers them behind a single address instead of making your players memorise one per server.

Switching servers without disconnecting

Moving from one server to another skips the login screen entirely: the proxy keeps the session open and simply redirects the stream. That is what makes a hub with portals or a selection menu credible.

Restarting without emptying the network

A plugin update or a restart only affects the server concerned. Players can be sent back to the lobby for the duration and then return, rather than all being thrown off the network.

A single entry point

Your game servers no longer need to be reachable directly by players: only the proxy does. That narrows the exposed surface down to one address — the one our Anti-DDoS infrastructure protects.

How to connect your servers to the proxy

Setting it up happens in two places. On the proxy side, each server is declared in the config.yml file with its address and port; the ip_forward option must be enabled so the game servers receive the players' real IP address and identity rather than the proxy's.

On the game server side, you conversely tell them to trust the proxy for authentication: online-mode goes to false in server.properties and BungeeCord mode is switched on in spigot.yml. One caveat follows from that: from then on, your game servers must no longer be reachable directly by players, or anyone could connect to them under any username.

Which BungeeCord plan should you pick?

The question to ask is not how many servers you want to link, but how many players are connected at the same time: it is their traffic the proxy relays. BungeeCord 1, at €2 per month with 2 vCore and 2 GB of RAM, suits a network that is starting out. BungeeCord 2, at €5 per month with 4 vCore and 4 GB of RAM, takes over once attendance settles in or proxy plugins start piling up.

The proxy does not replace your game servers: it needs at least one Minecraft hosting plan alongside it to actually run the worlds. If you would rather administer everything yourself on a single machine, a VPS server lets you install the proxy and the game servers side by side, with the system administration that comes with it.

Frequently asked questions

What is BungeeCord?

BungeeCord is a proxy for Minecraft Java. Players connect to it rather than to a game server, and it forwards them to one of the servers it drives. That is what lets several servers sit behind a single address and lets players move between them without leaving the game.

Do I need a BungeeCord to host a Minecraft server?

No. A proxy is of no use as long as you only run one server: players connect to it directly. BungeeCord becomes useful the moment you want several servers to coexist, a lobby and two game modes for instance, behind a single address.

How many Minecraft servers can I connect to my proxy?

BungeeCord sets no limit on the number of servers declared in its configuration. In practice the limit comes from the number of players connected at the same time, since the proxy relays their packets: it is that traffic, not the server count, that consumes its resources.

How much RAM does a BungeeCord proxy need?

Far less than a game server. The proxy loads no world, no chunks and no entities: it only passes packets along. Our 2 GB and 4 GB plans cover the vast majority of networks, the RAM mostly serving to absorb connection spikes and proxy plugins.

What is the difference between BungeeCord and Waterfall?

Waterfall is a fork of BungeeCord that adds performance and stability patches while keeping the same plugin API. A BungeeCord plugin therefore runs on Waterfall, and you can switch from one to the other on your hosting without redoing your configuration.

How do I connect my Minecraft servers to BungeeCord?

Declare each server in the proxy's config.yml with its address and port, then enable ip_forward so the game servers receive the players' real address and identity. On the game server side, set online-mode to false and turn on BungeeCord mode in spigot.yml.

Can I install plugins on my BungeeCord proxy?

Yes. Proxy plugins go into the BungeeCord plugins folder and handle what the proxy sees passing through: authentication, global permissions, cross-server messaging, MOTD, connection limits. Plugins written for Spigot or Paper still belong on the game servers themselves.

How much does BungeeCord hosting cost at AdKyNet?

BungeeCord 1 is €2 per month with 2 vCore, 2 GB of RAM and 10 GB of disk space. BungeeCord 2 is €5 per month with 4 vCore, 4 GB of RAM and 20 GB of disk space. Both include 1 database, 2 backups and a connection up to 10 Gbits.
