What is a FiveM server?
FiveM is a modification framework for GTA V that lets you open your own multiplayer servers, outside of GTA Online. The game is still Rockstar's, but the rules, the jobs, the economy and the vehicles are entirely yours: it is the server that defines them, through the resources you install on it.
In practice, a FiveM server loads at startup a list of resources declared in its server.cfg file, then runs them continuously while players are connected. Two FiveM servers can therefore have absolutely nothing in common, even though they run the same base game.

Starting and stopping the server, live console, file management, editing the server.cfg, monitoring resource usage: everything happens from a web interface, with no command line involved.

Added vehicles, outfits and maps quickly add up to several gigabytes. Disk space is no detail on an established RP server: it is often what sets the limit on what you can offer.

What you can run on it
ESX
One of the most widespread roleplay frameworks on FiveM: jobs, salaries, inventory, companies. It installs like any other resource, and a large share of the public scripts out there are written for it.
QBCore
The ecosystem's other major RP base, more recent and more modular. Like ESX, it drops into the resources folder and starts from the server.cfg: changing your mind does not mean changing hosting.
Your own resources
FiveM scripts are written in Lua, JavaScript or C#. Nothing forces you through an existing framework: you can develop your own mechanics and drop them straight onto the server.
RP, freeroam or racing
Roleplay is the most visible use, but a FiveM server can just as well host freeroam, races or home-made gamemodes. The resource makes the server, not the other way round.
Which FiveM plan should you pick?
The recommended slot count gives you a first bearing, but it is the weight of your resources that decides. FiveM Micro, at €3.59 per month with 1 vCore and 2 GB of DDR5, covers a test server or a small eight-player freeroam. FiveM Small at €7.19 and FiveM Medium at €11.99 aim at 16 and 32 slots respectively, which matches an RP server getting off the ground. FiveM Big at €19.99 (64 slots) and FiveM Platinum at €39.99 (128 slots, 6 vCore and 32 GB) are for established servers whose resource list keeps growing month after month.

What is a FiveM server?

Do players need to own GTA V to join a FiveM server?
Yes. Every player must own a legitimate copy of Grand Theft Auto V on PC and install the FiveM client to join a server, including yours. The hosting provides the server, not the game.
Can I install ESX or QBCore on my server?
Yes. A framework such as ESX or QBCore is only a set of resources dropped into the resources folder and started from the server.cfg file. You can install whichever you like, replace it later or use none at all, without changing hosting.
Why does a FiveM server need a database?
Because everything that has to survive a restart is stored there: characters, money, inventories, vehicles, properties and sanctions. Every RP framework relies on it, which is why a database is included with each of our FiveM plans.

How does my server appear in the FiveM server list?
Your server has to be registered with the Cfx.re Keymaster, which issues a licence key to enter in the server.cfg. That key is tied to the server's IP address: it is what allows the server to appear in the public list and lets players connect.
