What is a Garry's Mod server?
Garry's Mod is not a game in the usual sense: it is a sandbox built on the Source engine, and almost all of its content comes from the community. A GMod server is the instance that keeps that content running around the clock — the map, the gamemode, the addons — and that your players join from the multiplayer menu.
What sets two servers apart is therefore not the game, which is the same for everyone, but what you install on it: the gamemode's Lua scripts, the addon collection, the maps and the rules you enforce. Hosting has only one job, but it is a decisive one: to run all of that without stutters.
What your Garry's Mod hosting includes
Ryzen 9 9950X
The Source engine runs the game logic and the addons' Lua in a single thread: it is the speed of one core that decides how smooth the server feels, not the number of cores. Hence the choice of a recent high-frequency processor over a model with many slow cores.
Unlimited slots
We do not charge per player slot. How many players your server can hold depends on your gamemode and on the resources of your plan, not on a commercial cap decided in advance.
From 2 to 16 GB of RAM
On GMod, memory is consumed above all by the addons loaded at startup. 2 GB are enough for a Sandbox or a light TTT; a long Workshop collection on a DarkRP calls for the 8 or 16 GB of the higher plans.
Anti-DDoS protection
A game server exposes a public IP address around the clock, which makes it an easy target. Protection is included on all four plans, with no option to enable and no surcharge.
A database included
DarkRP and most persistent addons — inventories, currency, properties, sanctions — store their data in a database rather than in files. The database that comes with the plan keeps them from losing the server's state on every restart.
Up to 40 Gbits connection
A player's first contact with your server is the addon download. A wide connection shortens that initial wait — the very moment when most visitors decide whether to stay.
The gamemodes you can host
DarkRP
The most widespread roleplay gamemode on GMod: jobs, economy, properties, police and outlaws. It is also the hungriest, because it almost always comes with a long list of addons and a well-filled database.
Trouble in Terrorist Town
Garry's Mod's historic social deduction mode, played in short rounds. Light on resources and quick to set up, it is often the best starting point for a community that is just getting going.
Prop Hunt and Murder
Short-round modes that rely on few addons and suit servers with a high player turnover. They run comfortably on the entry-level plans.
Sandbox
The original mode, with no rules and no objective: building, Wiremod, contraptions. Its load depends entirely on what your players build, which makes headroom in RAM and CPU all the more useful.
Addons, Workshop and missing textures
The simplest way to manage your addons is to gather the Workshop ones into a collection, then give its identifier to the server: it downloads the whole set and offers it to players automatically when they connect. Addons you write yourself go straight into the addons folder instead.
Then there is the classic purple and black checkerboard: it marks a texture the player's client does not own. Many GMod maps reuse content from Counter-Strike: Source or other Source games. Either your players own those games and mount them in Garry's Mod, or you pick maps that ship their own content — a trade-off to settle before opening the server, not after.
Which Garry's Mod plan should you pick?
Think in numbers of addons rather than numbers of players. GMOD-BRONZE, at €3.6 per month with 1 vCore and 2 GB of RAM, suits a TTT, a Prop Hunt or a lightly loaded Sandbox. GMOD-SILVER at €7.2 and GMOD-GOLD at €9 both move up to 8 GB of RAM and differ mainly in CPU, which counts as soon as a DarkRP starts running a lot of Lua. GMOD-DIAMOND, at €15 with 8 vCore and 16 GB, is for established servers whose addon collection keeps growing.
If you run several games, you will find the same infrastructure behind our Minecraft hosting and FiveM server plans. And if you would rather administer the machine yourself, with root access and your own services, our VPS servers are the place to look.

Frequently asked questions
What is a Garry's Mod server?
It is an instance of the Garry's Mod dedicated server, running around the clock, that your players join from the game's multiplayer menu. It is the machine that loads the map, the gamemode and the addons, and that keeps the world's state between two sessions.
Which gamemodes can I install on my server?
Every gamemode that exists for Garry's Mod, since a gamemode is nothing more than a set of Lua scripts dropped into the server's gamemodes folder. DarkRP, Trouble in Terrorist Town, Prop Hunt, Murder or the original Sandbox mode all install the same way, and you can switch between them without changing hosting.
How much RAM does a Garry's Mod server need?
This depends far less on the number of players than on the number of addons loaded: every Workshop addon is held in memory from startup. The 2 GB of the GMOD-BRONZE plan are enough for a Sandbox or a light TTT, while a DarkRP with a long addon collection is more comfortable on the 8 or 16 GB of the higher plans.
Why does the processor matter so much on a GMod server?
Because the Source engine runs the game logic and the addons' Lua in a single thread: it is the speed of one core, not the number of cores, that decides how smooth the server feels. That is why our plans are built on a Ryzen 9 9950X rather than on a processor with many slow cores.
Do my players need to own Garry's Mod to join my server?
Yes. Garry's Mod is a paid game on Steam and every player must own a copy on their account to connect to any server, including yours. The hosting provides the server, not the game licences.
How do I add Steam Workshop addons?
Create a Workshop collection holding your addons, then give its identifier to the server in its startup configuration: it will download the whole collection and offer it to players automatically when they connect. Addons can also be dropped straight into the server's addons folder.
Why do some players see missing textures?
The purple and black checkerboard marks a texture the client does not own. Many Garry's Mod maps reuse content from Counter-Strike: Source or other Source games: either your players own those games and mount them in Garry's Mod, or you pick maps that ship their own content.
How much does Garry's Mod hosting cost at AdKyNet?
