What is a Minecraft server?

A Minecraft server is the program that keeps the game world running continuously, outside your own computer. It holds the generated terrain, everyone's inventory, the buildings and the time of day, and it keeps all of that in sync between the connected players. Without one, a multiplayer game stops the moment the person hosting it disconnects.

The server works in ticks: twenty times per second, it recalculates entities, redstone, mobs and the chunks loaded around the players. That loop is what has to keep up, and it is what decides whether your world stays smooth or starts to stutter. Available RAM and processor power are therefore the first two figures to look at.

What your Minecraft server includes

From 2 to 32 GB of RAM

This is the resource that really sets the ceiling. A vanilla world among friends fits in little memory; a heavy modpack, a large map or a big community will ask for a great deal more.

Minecraft's game loop leans above all on a single core. What matters most is therefore not the number of cores, but the power of each one: exactly what a server holding its twenty ticks per second is looking for.

Connection up to 40 Gbit/s

A Minecraft server's traffic stays modest per player, but it is constant and sensitive to latency. A generously sized link keeps the connection from becoming the weak point at peak hours.

From 5 to 100 GB of storage

A world grows as players explore: every newly generated chunk is written to disk and never goes away again. Add the mods, the side maps and the backups, and the space fills up quickly.

Unlimited slots

We do not charge per player. The number of simultaneous connections is not capped by any line on an invoice: the only limit is the resources you have chosen.

Backups and database

Two backup slots and one database are included in every plan. Enough to step back before installing a modpack or changing version, the two moments when a world most often breaks.

Vanilla, plugins or modpacks: what will you run?

Vanilla

The game exactly as it ships, with nothing added. It is the lightest and the most stable option, and it is plenty for a survival game among friends.

Plugins

On a Bukkit, Spigot or Paper base, plugins add server-side mechanics: land protection, economy, mini-games, moderation. Players connect with a standard Minecraft client, with nothing to install.

Mods and modpacks

Forge, Fabric and NeoForge change the game itself: new blocks, new dimensions, new machines. That calls for the same set of mods on both sides, and for a more generous memory allowance.

Version changes

The Minecraft version can be changed at any time. Useful when a modpack requires a specific version, or when you would rather wait before following a new game update.

Which Minecraft plan should you pick?

Start from the content, not from the player count. The Trial, free for two days with 2 GB, is there to check everything runs well before committing. MC 1, at €2.40 per month with 4 GB and 1 vCore, covers a vanilla game or a small plugin server. MC 2 at €4.80 and MC 3 at €8.40 move up to 6 and 8 GB: the format of a well-equipped plugin server or a light modpack. MC 4 at €15 with 16 GB and MC 5 at €18 with 32 GB are aimed at heavy modpacks and established communities.

If you plan to link several servers together, with a lobby and separate worlds, take a look at our BungeeCord plans. And if you would rather administer the machine yourself, with root access and your own services, our VPS servers are the next step.

Frequently asked questions

How long does the Trial plan last?

The free trial lasts 2 days and allows you to test our services without any commitment.

How much RAM does a Minecraft server need?

It depends on what you run. A vanilla server among friends needs very little: the 2 GB of the trial or the 4 GB of the MC 1 plan are enough. As soon as you add plugins, a large world or a high view distance, consumption goes up. A Forge or Fabric modpack is far more demanding: that is where the 8, 16 and 32 GB plans make sense.

Can I install modpacks?

Yes, you can install modpacks on our Minecraft servers, enjoy a wide selection of modpacks.

Can I install plugins?

Yes, you can install plugins on our Minecraft servers, enjoy a wide variety of compatible plugins.

What is the difference between a plugin and a mod?

A plugin is installed on the server side only, on a Bukkit, Spigot or Paper base: players connect with a standard Minecraft client. A mod changes the game itself and runs on Forge, Fabric or NeoForge: it has to be present on both sides, on the server and on every player's machine. The two are not interchangeable.

Can I change my Minecraft version at any time?

Yes, you can change your Minecraft version at any time on our servers.

How many players can connect?

Slots are unlimited on all six plans: we do not charge per player. The real limit is hardware, meaning the RAM and the processor allocated to your server. The more players connected at the same time, the more chunks are loaded and the more entities have to be simulated on every tick.

Are my worlds backed up?

Every plan includes two backup slots and one database. That is useful before installing a modpack or changing version, two operations that touch your worlds directly.
